Kenny Chesney's dog Ruby died in December, and the country music star continues to mourn his loss. Chesney frequently shared photos of Ruby, a pitbull mix, on her Instagram account, and he even wrote a song in her honor. Now he's taking another step in his healing by spreading her ashes, and he shared the poignant moment on Instagram.
Chesney posted a photo from the beach wearing his trademark hat and board shorts as he spreads Ruby's ashes. He wrote, "Spreading Ruby’s love on the West Coast. @darubagirl"
Fans left messages of support: "Sorry for your loss of your fur baby thank you for sharing special moment ❤️🙏," "Awwww so sweet thinking of you Kenny it’s never easy ❤️," and "God bless all the dogs we all have lost." Kelsea Ballerini, who recently toured with Kenny, left an emoji that sums up our feelings: 🥹.
When Ruby passed away, Chesney said, "She had an ancient, calming soul. She was honest and authentic, she was a protector, she took a warrior’s path in the journey of her life." He continued, "You were a very good girl. We loved you and thank you for teaching us how to love unconditionally. You were one heaven of a dog."
Chesney even wrote a song about his dog, "Da Ruba Girl," that benefits Stray Rescue of St. Louis. Anyone who has lost a pet can relate to what Chesney is going through. He and his longtime girlfriend, Mary Nolan, also share a goldendoodle named Poncho. Our hearts go out to them.
